Puesto Viejo Estancia & Polo Club

Puesto Viejo” appears in bold black capitals on the white gate. A dirt road leads towards horse stables and a polo pitch further down. A good-looking blond man comes jogging our way. It is Jeremy Baker, former trader at Goldman Sachs in London’s financial center:  man with a long-acquired taste for nature, high adrenaline sports and adventure.  No wonder that during his first visit to Argentina in the nineties, Jeremy fell head over heels for the pampa’s, polo, and future wife Liliana.

A few years into the new millennium, after Argentina’s financial and economic crisis, Jeremy flfilled a long-time wish to do something substantial with the bonuses earned at the bank and his love for the sport of polo. He invested in the Puesto Viejo Estancia and Polo Club, managed by a friend and well-known professional on the Argentine polo scene.

After years of alternating between the intensity of their London City-busy jobs and life with small kids and languishing-lazy-holidays at the vacation house on their property, Jeremy and Liliana decided it was time for a new family adventure. They moved to Argentina with their two daughters, and, teaming up on a professional level, took over the management of Puesto Viejo to run things according to their own vision.

The latest addition is the brand new Club House.  Beyond the traditional club activities, the Club House is being used for all kinds of private and corporate events. Most Polo Clubs only have one pitch to play on, Puesto Viejo features three.

A few cars are parked under the poplars shielding the original Puesto Viejo, “the old place”,  where the cattle-herds used to live. Under Liliana’s tasteful eye, respecting the historical style and colors, the building was expanded and turned into a hotel, all twelve rooms decorated differently and named after one of Jeremy’s favourite horses.

Jeremy and Liliana are waiting at their house, yet another cleverly designed building on this land and that offers a 360-degree view of the nature all around. They form a handsome couple, dressed in the Puesto Viejo Polo Club Shirt, in different colors. Liliana smiles when she compares the Puesto Viejo Project to a relationship. They laugh, they fight, they work their tails off together, approaching the goal from different angles, but they are definitely on the same team.

They rock, as Jeremy puts it.

That’s why Jeremy and Liliana Baker-Forrester from Puesto Viejo, Estancia and Polo Club, became good personal friends of Xpatlife in the first place, and one of our valued XPP’s (Xpatlife Preferred Partner), creating exciting life experiences. For you.
