Cinema's Great Rendezvous

The film Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes) directed by the Argentinean Damián Szifron and co-produced by Pedro Almodóvar will be the sole representative of Latin America in the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival, in May 12-24.

In his first appearance in Cannes, Szifron wil compete with renowned film makers for the Palme d’Or whose winner will be decided by a jury presided by the Australian director Jane Campion.

Born in 1975 in the Buenos Aires province neighbourhood of Ramos Mejía, Szifrón has created a “completely original” and “very special” movie, said Thierry Fremaux, General Delegate of Cannes Film Fest at the announcement of the 18 candidates competing this year at the 67th edition.

Wild Tale has a “Río de la Plata surrealist humor,” Fremaux added. Starred by Ricardo Darín, the film’s cast is completed by Argentineans Óscar Martínez, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Érica Rivas, Rita Cortese, Julieta Zylberberg and Darío Grandinetti.

The prestigious 18-film lineup includes entries from Canada, Russia, Turkey, Italy and Japan, highlighting the international breadth of what Artistic Director Thierry Fremaux called "cinema's great rendezvous."
